Dutch newspaper NRC giving away free iPad
This morning at Egg, my girlfriend showed me an interesting offer via an email from NRC Next in which they would GIVE you an iPad for subscribing to print + digital. I’m not sure if any US publishers have done this, but this is an interesting subsidy. If you click through on the link in the translation below you’ll see they even have upcharge options for 3g and bigger storage iPads.
I think this is a very interesting subsidy from a publisher – in the US the only offer I know of is MiFi device subsidy from Verizon when you BUY an iPad.
Could publishers also embed apps or bundle other types of marketing / subscriptions to make this more of a long term CRM play?
Would you do it if this offer came from the WSJ or NYT? Do other iPad / Android tablet subsidies exist from other publishers, brands etc? Does Apple work directly with publishers to structure these deals?
